When a tooth has a cavity or a chip, then the only way to repair it is with filling material. The decay is removed, and a tooth-colored filling called a composite, is bonded into the hole created in order to restore the tooth back to structure and function. The white fillings can be made to match virtually any tooth colour.
There are times when a tooth becomes structurally weak due to decay or fracture. When this happens, a crown may be recommended to help restore function and structural integrity. If the space is present, sometimes two crowns with a false tooth in between can be used to restore function. This is known as a bridge.
We provide both preventative and restorative work for children of all ages. Regular check ups allow us to check for cavities and monitor the bite of the child. This allows us to make appropriate referrals to orthodontist or other specialists should the need arise. If you have minor crowding or what we call orthodontic relapse, there is a treatment that can be done using clear removal acrylic aligners. This process can be effective for correcting those slightly crooked teeth. Feel free to ask if you are a candidate for this procedure.
Sometimes we do things with our teeth outside of the regular function of chewing and smiling. Grinding and clenching of our teeth especially at night can cause damage to the teeth and the supporting muscles and bones. Acrylic night guards or splints can help with protecting and sometimes reducing the symptoms and destructive forces of the para functional habit. At times the nerve of a tooth is compromised due to multiple factors and it ends up dying. Root canal therapy can treat a dead tooth and allow that tooth to be kept in the mouth. We will be glad to help you through this procedure should the need arise.
